Mental health continues to be an invisible crisis in the construction industries. A rising number of workers and their families are experiencing rising levels of stress, anxiety and other mental health challenges. Construction is at the epicenter of the workplace and jobsite mental health crisis. This industry leads in suicide rates, substance use, and overdose deaths —yet stigma and silence persist. This session focuses on WHY these topics are an imperative for construction leaders at all levels. Learn how to build a mentally healthy culture. Identify what you and your company can do to help promote mental wellbeing among your workforce.

Cal Beyer, CWP, is Sr. Director of SAFE Workplaces for national nonprofit SAFE Project. SAFE stands for Stop the Addiction Fatality Epidemic. Cal specializes in human capital risk management. Cal was instrumental in the launch of the Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention. He was named a Top 25 Newsmaker for 2016 by Engineering-News Record. He serves on the Executive Committee for the National Action Alliance for Suicide Prevention. Cal has authored over 25 feature articles for CFMA Building Profits. He served as a past National Secretary and an Executive Committee member for CFMA, and he is a recipient of CFMA’s Danny B. Parrish Outstanding Leadership Award in 2016 and the Chairman’s Award in 2017.
